About the Contest

Schönox, HPS North America understands the challenges installers, contractors, and project managers face day in and day out. We want to honor and acknowledge the never-ending hard work, grit, and determination it takes to be in our industry. To do so, we organized the annual Worst Subfloor Contest.

2019 marks the sixth year of the contest. This year, we are expecting the competition to be more fierce than ever. We want you to BRING IT ÖN.

Give us your worst, and we’ll show you the best.

During the contest, we will announce our guest judges, as well as other updates. Best sure to stay tuned! Until then, keep in mind that the following criteria will be judged:

  1. Severity of the original subfloor’s condition.
  2. Skill level needed and attention to detail taken into the execution of the project.
  3. Quality of the finished subfloor.

Congratulations to the 2018 Worst Subfloor Contest Winners!

1st Place Winner

H.J. Martin and Son, based out of Green Bay, Wisc., took first prize in 2018 with the 100,000-square-foot 1924 hotel renovation. The installation crew, Donovan Morris and Andy Jurczkowski, braved the historic renovation using Schönox AP, Schönox AST, Schönox SHP, Schönox KH FIX, and Schönox Foam Tape. Over 80 percent of the building needed leveling, including 180 bedrooms and bathrooms, hallways, common areas, and  bathrooms.

2nd Place Winner

Kaufman Concrete Company, based out of Louisville, Ky., was awarded second prize in 2018 with the Ronald McDonald House renovation using Schönox SHP, Renotex, and Schönox APF. This building was originally built as the Louisville Medical School from 1913-1971. Since then, the property has seen many floor coverings, which resulted in a multitude of renovations to improve safety and longevity for the Ronald McDonald House mission.

3rd Place Winner

Design South Flooring and Interiors, based out of Saltillo, Miss., received third prize in 2018 with the 4,000-square-foot Barnes Crossing Mall retail renovation in Tupelo, MS. The installers, Juan Sosa and Mateo Lavan, filled trenches varying from 1″- 8″ deep and leveled the space after removing quarry tile. A multitude of products were used, including Schönox MR 18, Schönox SHP, Schönox VD, Schönox RR, Schönox SEZ Plus, and Schönox SL.
