Our background: Short and Long Histories Combined

Entrepreneurial Spirit Backed by a Century+ of R&D
After 120 years of operations in dozens of countries, Schönox GmbH, headquartered in Rosendahl, Germany, partnered with Thomas Trissl, forming High Performance Subfloors (HPS) to introduce and support Schönox in the North American market. The entrepreneurial venture began in 2011 at the ground floor with a distinct advantage – products with more than a century of continuous development poured into each.

We set out to revolutionize the subfloor industry, making Schönox solutions available across North America. We equipped flooring pros to do things they had never done. They renovated rather than demolished subfloors. Projects with the Need for Speed™ found the right partner. Innovation became an integral part of the subfloor process. Flooring pros found project opportunities in the subfloor, using Schönox to delight customers all along the way.

In just over a decade, Schönox HPS North America developed an outstanding sales and technical team, extensive distribution partners and product logistics, brand name recognition, continuous marketing activation through advertising and events, admission to the largest buying groups, and a brand-loyal customer base – all put in place from coast to coast. Along the way, we’ve built lifelong friendships, and the Schönox brand became the most trusted subfloor resource. Today, Schönox is in the field, everywhere, gaining trust, project by project, customer by customer.

Quality and product stewardship

Our assortment of goods stands out due to innovative system solutions, at the same time taking into account ecological aspects. Being a member of the Gemeinschaft Emissionskontrollierte Verlegewerkstoffe (GEV), we offer a complete array of very low-emission glues according to EMICODE EC1 ( For many years we have been generating more than 90% of our turnover in the case of floor glues with very low-emission products. Furthermore, all of the products manufactured by Schönox are low-chromate according to EU-RL 2003/53/EC.

Raw materials

Product stewardship begins with purchasing raw materials. In agreement with the Responsible Care and Product Stewardship initiatives, a system for avoiding and eliminating critical substances was implemented in AkzoNobel in 1996. Within the framework of suppliers’ assessment, the quality, environment and security standards of our suppliers undergo annual monitoring in order to minimise possible risks in advance.

Environmental protection

Since the implementation of our integrated management systems, we have recorded major success in respect of environmental protection. Today, product-integrated environmental protection and a more and more energy-efficient production process take centre stage in our activities. Environmental protection in Schönox focuses on:

  • preventive environmental protection;
  • saving resources (raw materials, energy and water); and
  • waste avoidance.
